Instantly alternatives
By the driftwood team · July 2026
Updated July 2026. Pricing and features get a monthly fact-check.
The disclosure, first. We build driftwood
(
driftwood.sh), and it is one of the six
alternatives below. Judge the page accordingly. To make it worth your time
anyway, every entry says who should pick that tool, and the last section
covers when Instantly is the right choice, including over us.
Most people searching for Instantly alternatives are unhappy about one of
four things: the real monthly cost once the add-ons stack up, the quality
of the lead database, the fact that Instantly is email only, or reply
rates that stayed low no matter how much volume went out. Those are four
different problems with four different answers, so this page starts with
what Instantly actually is and where it genuinely wins. If you want the
whole AI SDR category instead, we keep
a separate ranked comparison.
What Instantly is, and what it is genuinely good at
Instantly is a cold email platform. The core product is sending
infrastructure: you connect as many sending accounts as you want, warm them
up in Instantly's warmup network, run sequenced campaigns from one
dashboard, and work replies in a shared inbox called Unibox. As of July
2026 the sending plans are Growth at $47 a month (5,000 emails, 1,000
uploaded contacts), Hypergrowth at $97 a month (100,000 emails, 25,000
contacts), and Light Speed at $358 a month (500,000 emails, 100,000
contacts), with about 20 percent off billed annually.
Around that core Instantly has grown a suite: a B2B lead database called
SuperSearch, which Instantly says covers more than 450 million contacts, a
CRM with calling and SMS, website visitor identification, and in 2026 an AI
sales agent and an AI reply agent. These are billed separately from the
sending plans through a credit subscription, from $47 a month as of July
2026.
What it is genuinely good at: cheap entry into serious sending volume.
Unlimited mailboxes and included warmup at $47 a month is a strong deal,
the campaign tooling is easy to learn, and the platform scales to hundreds
of thousands of sends a month. Lead generation agencies in particular run
large multi-client operations on it. If your outbound model is high-volume
cold email and you know it works, Instantly executes that model well at a
low price.
Where Instantly falls short, and for whom
The headline price is the floor
The $47 sending plan is real, but the lead database, CRM, and AI agents
are separate subscriptions, and you still buy domains and mailboxes
elsewhere. Multiple 2026 reviews put realistic working totals at two to
four times the sending plan price. Budget for the stack, not the sticker.
Email only
There are no native LinkedIn steps and no multichannel sequences. If your
prospects answer LinkedIn DMs but ignore cold email, Instantly cannot
reach them where they are.
Lead database accuracy
Reviews and Reddit threads through 2026 report bounces, outdated titles,
and stale emails from the SuperSearch database. The pattern in user
reports is consistent enough that you should verify exported lists before
sending rather than trusting them as-is.
Warmup numbers are not inbox placement
The warmup dashboard reflects activity inside Instantly's warmup pool.
That is not the same thing as landing in a real prospect's inbox, and
reviewers regularly flag the gap. Run independent placement tests before
trusting the green numbers.
Volume is the strategy
Instantly's whole design assumes the way to more replies is more sends.
For founders selling into a small market, that assumption fails: burning
through your total addressable market with templated email at a sub-1%
reply rate is not recoverable. If your problem is that replies are low,
not that sends are capped, a bigger sending engine will not fix it.
Six real alternatives
1
driftwood is a GTM agent built around
demo-led outbound. Where Instantly
scales the number of sends, driftwood changes what a send carries:
every message includes a working demo of your product, built for the
specific prospect receiving it. A human approves every send, and
sending happens from your own LinkedIn or email account, not a bot
inbox. On the same lead list, replies went from under 1% to over 14%
in week one at Autosana (YC S25).
The honest fit: driftwood is early, and it trades volume for depth.
If your model depends on hundreds of thousands of sends a month, it
is the wrong tool; that is exactly what Instantly is for.
Best for: founders and lean
teams selling a product that demos well, whose problem is reply rate,
not send capacity.
2
Smartlead is the closest like-for-like swap: cold email sending with
unlimited mailboxes and warmup included on every plan, from $39 a
month for 2,000 active leads as of July 2026. It is popular with
agencies for its white-label workspaces and API. If your complaint
with Instantly is price, billing, or infrastructure control rather
than the channel itself, evaluate this one first.
Best for: teams and agencies
that want Instantly's model with different economics and more
infrastructure control.
3
lemlist is a multichannel sequencer: email and LinkedIn steps in one
campaign, with calling on higher tiers. Pricing is per user, $69 a
month for email only and $109 for multichannel as of July 2026, so it
costs more per seat than Instantly but covers the channel Instantly
does not.
Best for: small teams whose
prospects live on LinkedIn as much as email.
4
Apollo bundles a large B2B contact database with sequencing, a
dialer, and light CRM in one per-seat product. There is a usable free
tier, and paid plans start at $49 per user per month billed annually
as of July 2026. The trade is consolidation over depth: one tool
covers data and sending, with database accuracy that varies by
segment, as it does everywhere.
Best for: teams that want
data and sending in one place without assembling a stack.
5
Artisan sells Ava, an autonomous AI BDR that runs the outbound cycle
from lead discovery through follow-up. It is self-serve since the Ava
2.0 relaunch, with entry pricing from $250 a month as of July 2026.
Where Instantly gives you a sending platform to operate, Ava is a
hand-off: you set the targeting and the agent runs the motion.
Best for: teams that want to
stop operating outbound tooling entirely and delegate the whole
motion.
6
Clay is not a sender; it is the data workbench many Instantly users
add in front of their campaigns: waterfall enrichment across more
than a hundred data providers, AI research columns, and buying
signals. If your real problem with Instantly is targeting and data
quality rather than sending, fixing the data layer matters more than
switching senders. We compared
Clay alternatives separately.
Best for: teams whose
bottleneck is who to contact, not how many emails they can
send.
When Instantly is the right choice
Instantly is the right choice when high-volume cold email is genuinely
your motion: you have a proven offer, a large addressable market, and the
math works at low reply rates because the volume is there. It is the right
choice for agencies running many client campaigns from one roof, and for
anyone who wants working sending infrastructure at the lowest credible
price. In those cases none of the alternatives above will serve you
better, and most will cost more. The honest dividing line: if sends are
your constraint, buy Instantly or Smartlead. If replies are your
constraint, more sending will not fix it, and that is the problem the rest
of this list exists for.
FAQ
What does Instantly cost in 2026?
As of July 2026, sending plans are $47, $97, and $358 a month on monthly
billing (Growth, Hypergrowth, Light Speed), about 20 percent less billed
annually. The lead database, CRM, and AI agents are separate credit
subscriptions, so most working setups cost meaningfully more than the
sending plan alone. Check instantly.ai for current numbers.
Does Instantly do LinkedIn outreach?
No. Instantly is email only, with no native LinkedIn steps. lemlist runs
both channels in one sequence, and driftwood sends over LinkedIn or
email from your own account.
What is the closest direct alternative to Instantly?
Smartlead. Same category, same unlimited-mailbox model, entry at $39 a
month versus Instantly's $47 as of July 2026. The differences are in the
details: infrastructure options, white-label features, and the API.
Will switching tools fix a low reply rate?
Usually not. If deliverability is healthy and replies are still under 1
percent, the message is the problem, not the sender. The case for
changing what the message carries is laid out in
demo-led outbound, and the result at
one company is written up in
the Autosana story.
